On September 24th 2018, 200 Coach Core apprentices and graduates traveled up to Loughborough University to celebrate their achievements as they took part in our first ever Coach Core Awards.

The awards included categories for Apprentice of the Year and Educator of the Year, which were presented by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, respectively.

Although the awards were a big part of the day, all members of Team Coach Core shared the same excitement and celebration of being brought together under one roof.

There was particular excitement for the masterclasses which were led by sporting heroes including Laura Robson, Scott Hann, Ugo Monye & Sarah Hunter and Mark Ramprakash.

Graduating apprentices from Coach Core locations Glasgow, Wales, London, Essex, Birmingham, Nottingham and Manchester then took part in a netball shootout. Their Royal Highnesses even faced off on opposing teams!

Finally, everyone took their seats in Sir David Wallace Hall for the awards ceremony. Each and every nominee was deserving of the prize, but after tough deliberations, the winners were:

• Mentor of the Year – Liam Watson
• Community Outreach Project of the Year – Yorkhill Hospital
• Educator of the Year – Gareth Norman
• Inclusion Programme of the Year – Torquay United Inspirations
• Graduate of the Year – Seb
• Apprentice of the Year – Kayleigh

With such a brilliant day already, it was amazing to also be able to announce that Sport England awarded The Royal Foundation a £995,500 National Lottery grant to double the reach of Coach Core by adding 10 new sites in England over the next three years.

Thanks to every person who came along and took part in the day, and also a huge thank you to Loughborough University for hosting us! As well as a big thank you to Sport England for helping us grow the Coach Core reach!
